Fascinating small mirrors
There was no alternative to using concrete reinforcement bars for stands and steps. Of all iron rods, which could be more beautiful than “Monier-Iron” the rebar named after the inventor of concrete.
The rods do proverbially have souls: the fine spiral wires that run parallel to the rods to stabilise the concrete are called Souls (Seele). They create an enchanting African art-like contour.
Frank and I really liked the idea of concrete reinforcement bars uniformly rusted to a vermillion but this would have been quite laborious. Instead, we decided to protect the steel surface with BWM silver titanic car finish.
“Uh, we have a problem with the electric wiring!“ We could not put the wire through the middle of the rod as one could with a pipe and the idea of the fixed link was born. From the side, the mirror now resembled the mast of a sailing boat resulting in a metamorphic connection to Lanzarote. Round corals served as insulators and were featured at the top and the choice of quartz crystal bowls made every single mirror one of a kind.
